Inferring trophic strategies from marine protists through the lens of omics and machine learning

Unicellular eukaryotes (protists) have a tremendous range of trophic strategies and interactions especially in the marine realm, but our knowledge remains limited by culture-dependent experiments. In the coming years, I intend to infer trophic abilities by analyzing transcriptomes from marine micro-organisms with sequence similarity networks and machine learning. Sequences specific to trophic strategies will be highlighted and then searched in meta-omics in order to define their ecological niches. These results will contribute to improving biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem functioning in future modeling.
